Capacity Building

Building and improving the capacities of the higher education institutions in Somalia is a key component of the SHERNet project. This includes but not limited to improving infrastructure, ICT capacities, human resources and facilitating the teaching and learning experience in the beneficiary universities. Networking

Networking among the beneficiary universities to enhance cooperation and collaboration, and establish working groups representing each of the beneficiary universities is a crucial element of the SHERNet project. The other programs and events including trainings and workshops bring together the representatives of these institutions to discuss the challenges they have been facing in their business, and learn from each others' experiences. Quality Higher Education

This is the ultimate goal of the SHERNet project, as it aims to develop the capacities of the beneficiary universities. A component of the project is geared towards the establishment of a unifying Higher Education Commission for the Somali universities, to play the role of the higher education regulator and quality assurance agent. What is SHERNet?

Somali Higher Education regional Networking (SHERNet) is a project funded by the European Union. Kenyatta University is the beneficiary of the grant and is implementing the project in partnership with the University of Nairobi Enterprise Services and also the African Virtual University has been subcontracted to undertake an e-learning component in the project. We have nine (9) participant higher education institutions from the large Somalia i.e. Somaliland; 1) Amoud University 2) University of Hargeisa 3) Burao University 4) Gollis University, Puntland; 1) Puntland State University 2) East Africa University, Central South Somalia; 1) Mogadishu University, 2) SIMAD University, 3) Benadir University.

The objective of SHERNet is to provide a forum for exchange of experience and to provide skillful support for higher education management through project innovation and training for quality improvement. Through its members, SHERNet aims at contributing to capacity building of higher education administrative and academic staff in the region by offering mentorship, coaching and consultancy in Higher Education Management and research.
